i Phone 4

After using the latest and greatest iPhone for a month or so, I think that I have figured out the things that I like best about the iPhone 4. To that end, here are my 10 favorite features, in no particular order.

Note: I went from an iPhone 3G to a brand new iPhone 4 a bit over a month ago. Having missed the 3GS model may have influenced my selection of my 10 favorite features, as will the things that I mainly use it for, so your mileage may vary.

Speed- The iPhone 4 is fast enough to influence what I do with it. The 3G was a comparative dog, and kept me from enjoying many things about the iPhone.

Better camera- While it is true that the best camera is the one you have with you, the 5 megapixel iPhone 4 camera is way better to have with you than the old 3G camera.

Better GPS performance- The 3G almost would not work with TomTom without the TomTom car kit. Now it simply does not need the boost, which is good since the car kit quit working when I got the new phone, Velcro or not. All of that made me look at GPS apps again, and TomTom comes in second anyway.

Multitasking- It’s handy for everything from phone calls that let you go back to what you were doing to jumping back and forth between apps without waiting for them to load. It’s about time.

Dual cameras- I have not yet made a FaceTime call, but I still like the user-side camera, if only for taking photos behind myself in stealth mode.

Cleaner design- My phone antenna did not do the “Death Grip” thing, so my appreciation for the cleaner design of the iPhone 4 is unfettered by Antenna-gate. It looks and feels way better, and the double-pixels screen is killer.

Tethering- I have not done it yet, but I will. $20 a month is not too much to pay to use my MacBook Pro almost everywhere.

Longer battery life- Despite some long afternoons using the phone almost constantly for four hours at a time doing internet things, I have yet to see my phone below 50% battery. This one will flat go all day.

Useful Web- The newfound speed, the longer batter life, and the better display conspire together to make this phone truly useful for working on the internet: Google, writing, reading blogs, getting the news, social networking, all the things that I do a lot. That turns the iPhone from a toy into a toy that I can do work with.

Slew of new apps- Along with the new utility came new apps to extend what I do with my phone. I’m sure a lot of you have found the same thing to be true. I’ll do a favorite new apps column any day now

Windows 7

Although the look of Windows 7 may seem to be nothing more than some polish applied liberally to the Vista Aero theme, make no mistake: this is a full replacement operating system, and more than just "Vista done right."

Windows 7 Memory Requirements
Since the time this article was first published, Windows 7 has been officially released and Microsoft has announced the memory requirements. Basically, Microsoft recommends a minimum of 1 GB of RAM for 32-bit versions of the operating system and a minimum of 2 GB for 64-bit versions. If you plan on taking advantage of the Windows XP Mode feature, you should bump those requirements up to include an additional 1 GB of RAM.

One of the big differences here is that Microsoft's recommendations for Windows 7 seem to be a lot more realistic than the ones given for Vista. That is, with Vista, most people needed much more than the minimum requirements stated for the OS to run properly. With Windows 7, the stated requirements seem adequate. However, you're still much better off if you have 4 GB of RAM, especially if you're running a 64-bit version.

Will Windows 7 run on less? The user community says yes – Windows 7 can boot up in systems with less RAM, but remember that there is a difference between just being able to boot your PC and actually being able to do anything with it. So, if you actually plan to use any applications and don't want your system to slow to a crawl, it's best not to try to scrape by with less than the minimum.

Windows Vista

Windows Vista is essentially warmed-over Windows XP. If you're currently happy with Windows XP SP2, we see no compelling reason to upgrade. On the other hand, if you need a new computer right now, Windows Vista is stable enough for everyday use
Windows Vista system requirementsIf you want to run Windows Vista on your PC, here's what it takes:

•1 gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
•1 gigabyte (GB) of system memory (512 megabytes (MB) for Home Basic)
•40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space (20 GB for Home Basic)
•Support for DirectX 9 graphics with WDDM and 128 MB of graphics memory (32 MB for Home Basic)
•DVD-ROM drive
•Audio Output
•Internet access (fees may apply)

Additional requirements:
Actual requirements and product functionality may vary based on your system configuration.
While all editions of Windows Vista can support multiple core CPUs, only Windows Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise can support dual processors.

Minimum requirements:
•800 megahertz (MHz) processor and 512 MB of system memory
•20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
•Support for Super VGA graphics
•CD-ROM drive

Product functionality and graphics may vary based on your system configuration. Some features may require advanced or additional hardware.

$2.4 Million Loungers

This Marc Newson Lockheed lounge chaise will soon be auctioned at Christie’s. It is promised to be the most expensive piece ever created by a living designer, with the final asking price soaring in at over $2.4 million. “This sale is expected to blow the previous record (another Newson piece that sold for $1 million earlier this year) out of the water by more than a little. Would you pay that much for this seat?” asks Luxist.

$1 Million Christmas Tree

Kee Jewelry of Singapore has designed this ornamental accessory for Christmas. The $1 million tree is decorated with 21,798 diamonds, weighing 913 carats. It has 3,762 crystal beads, and 456 lights.

$86.3 Million Paintings

Sotheby’s estimate that Triptych, created by the late Francis Bacon would fetch $70 million was surpassed by over $16 million. The sale of Triptych became, “the most expensive work of contemporary art ever sold at auction and a retort to doom-sayers who had predicted that the art market would falter seriously this season because of broad economic anxieties,” said Carol Vogel, New York Times’ Art & Design writer.

Triptych, painted in 1976, was hailed by Sotheby’s as “a landmark of the 20th-century canon.” The piece is not slight, it consists of three 78” x 58” oil on canvas panels.

Bacon seems to be the current hot commodity in the art community these days – nine of his paintings have each sold for over $25 million during the past year.

World's Most Expensive Beer is $5/Ounce

$5 for a single ounce of beer?! Oh yeah. Samuel Adams Utopias retails for $120 per 24 oz. bottle. It’s not only expensive, it’s darn strong. This year’s vintage dated has 27 percent alcohol, about 5 times normal.

“The copper-colored liquid inside hasn’t a bubble of carbonation,” the Sun Sentinel reviewed. “The first sensations are a viscous mouth feel and a sweet sherrylike flavor with nuances of toffee and maple. There are notes of vanilla and plum and a hint of charred wood. A long, lingering alcohol burn, more reminiscent of a cognac or brandy than a beer, is followed by a sweet burned-caramel aftertaste.”

Check out the bottle too, how awesome is that? It looks like a Cognac container. The bottle alone is a collectible.

$15,000 Six Pack

A six pack of Stella Artois Nobilis recently sold for $15,000. The profits from world’s most expensive six pack went towards wild life conservation group, WildAid thanks to AOL Canada who made the purchase.

The limited edition pack contained six celebrity-autographed magnums. One bottled is signed by Angelina Jolie, Kate Hudson, Charlize Theron and Woody Harrelson. Other signature included on the beers include Bo Derek, Ryan Gosling and Samuel L. Jackson

Kate Hudson has also created a brand of hair care products along with hairstylist David Babaii, part of the proceeds of which go towrad WildAid.

Purchaser AOL Canada will use the Nobilis (bottled in magnums) to celebrate the holidays while the proceeds will benefit WildAid, an international non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating the illegal wildlife trade. This generous gift caps off a great year for the group since its Canadian debut in June with WildAid ambassador Bo Derek and the launch of its first series of public awareness messages featuring movie stars and athletes. In September, Stella Artois Nobilis sponsored the WildAid Canada Lounge at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival where film stars met with Executive Director Peter Knights to learn about the severity of the worldwide illegal wildlife trade and the important work WildAid is doing to stop it. $96,000 Champagne Flute

“So far we know, this is the most expensive champagne glass in the world.”

The emotion attached with diamonds is unmistakable, so why not add diamonds to your most elegant table decorations?

Diamonds in glass is the creation of Natascha Marx and glass artist Tobias Berger. The handcrafted stemware, caviar dishes, napkin rings, and ashtrays can provide the emotional piece de’ resistance to the most elegant table.

Their latest addition is the handmade, “Imperial” Champagne glass which has 8.1 carat diamonds and is plated with 180 grams or 6.34 oz of gold. Each glass, which they claim is the world’s most expensive, is selling for 65,000 Euros or about $96,109.

The Saxophone was created especially for the Thailand Millionaire Expo in honor of King Bhumipol. The 10 diamond-coated saxophone was intended for Princess Pa’s charity foundation. The fine, black, polished wood is plated with 18 carat gold and 10 diamonds. The 40,000 Euro sax also bears the royal logo.

The pieces are made of borosilicate glass which has a melting point of around 1200 ºC, (diamonds burn at a temperature of about 800 ºC). The glass blower introduces the diamond into the viscous glass mass and places it in the desired position. The Diamonds in Glass website has a video of the process. Prices start at around 1620 euros for a small glass. (diamondsinglass)

$400,000 Champagne Glasses

The title of the world’s most expensive champagne glass goes to the $400,000 Diamond & Crystal Champagne Glass by designer John Calleija. Along with John, it took a team of five jewelers to develop two glasses made of 8kg blocks of crystal, encrusted with 15 carats of white diamonds, and six carats of rare, argyle pink diamonds.

The glasses were purchased by a Melbourne businessman who is planning to turn them into cherished family heirlooms. Nice! My family heirloom is a jar of tomato paste made by Italian nuns :D YUMM!

Guinness $15 Million Tipping Point Ad

Bravia-balls ad director Nicolai Fuglsig is back in action, but this time with Guinness. At an alleged 10 million euros ($15 million), this is likely the most expensive beer commercial you’ll ever watch. The ad is a chain reaction of visual delight, although the end result probably doesn’t justify the price tag.

Previously, the ad was only available to those who solved puzzles on the Guinness website.

If it’s your thing, check out the Bravia ads, which are nothing short of spectacular:

$5 Million Commercials

Brazilian beauty Gisele Bündchen stars along Sylvester Stallonein in a new Volkswagen commercial. The action packed commercial reportedly cost a cool $5 million!

The commercial promotes the Volkswagen Gol G5. It was directed by Brazilian Andrucha Waddington.

According to the Brazilian media, Gisele was paid $2.5 Million, while ol’ Stallone was paid $800,000.

By looking at the gallery below, I can understand why she was paid much more…

The Guinness ad below is another example of what’s possible with an ad agency that has a multi-million dollar budget

18-Bedroom Super Homes

This 18 bedroom 22 bathroom is considered the most expensive home in the U.S. With a price tag of 125 million dollars this 80,000 square foot mansion is owned by none other that Donald Trump. Reports say that he originally purchased it for around 40 million dollars. Check out the video for the details.

$165M For Godfather Mansion

This 1920s, 6.5 acre estate is the most expensive house up for sale in the US at $165 Million. It was once owned by publishing magnate, William Randolph Hearst, and was featured in the blockbuster film “The Godfather.”

Well Beckham has already got himself a mansion in Beverly Hills but if some one else is looking out for a luxurious home in US then the 'Most expensive' in US is on sale. This Beverly Hills mansion has been advertised for sale at $165m (£81.4m), making it the most expensive residential property listing in the US. The former home of US newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst has 29 bedrooms, three swimming pools, tennis courts, its own cinema and a nightclub. He has decorated the property with statues brought north from his famous Hearst Castle in San Simeon and with lifesize paintings of Davies. Mr. Hearst bought the H-shaped mansion in 1947 for about $120,000. (luxurylaunches)

$500 Million Homes

Originally built for the mistresses of King Leopold of Belgium, La Leopolda is currently owned by Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich, and some are referring to as the world’s most expensive house. It was sold to Roman for $500 million dollars, and was once the home of famous people including late banking magnate Edmund Safra, Bill Gates and Gianni Agnelli. What’s wonderful about this hilltop is its amazing view, as it overlooks the French Riviera, has the best sea views in the south of France, and also sits on 10 acres of immaculate grounds that run right down to the resort of Villefranche.

$2 Billion Homes

Nearly a year after our first post, we have more info about the personal skyscraper being built by Mukesh Ambani, the head of the Mumbai-based petrochemical Reliance Industries. He is also the fifth richest man in the world with a net worth of $46 billion. Ambani is making the most of his bank account and is building a 22-story house for his family of four that is expected to set him back $2 billion.

The house, dubbed Antilla, will stand 550 feet tall and will have a total of 400,000 sq ft of interior space. The house is scheduled to be finished by January 2009.

“What’s even more astonishing is that the stately home staunchly follows the principles of Vaastu, an Indian version of Feng Shui throughout the building with strategically placed furniture and accessories,” BornRich says. “Then there’s the health level with a swimming pool, a yoga studio and even an ice spa where residents can enjoy flurries of man-made snow!”

2 billion dollars? I’m totally speechless.

Personal Skyscrapers - India’s Mukesh Ambani Buildin’s 60 Story New House

Mukesh Ambani is India’s richest man and in a vain attempt to prove it, he’s building himself a skyscraper mansion that he wants to call “Antilia”. Antilia is the name of a mythical island some believe to be in in the Atlantic Ocean near Spain. Mr. Mukesh’s ultra luxury residence is the stuff of legend and according to the Mumbai Mirror, it’s height will be the equivalent of a 60 storey residential building and it’s exterior will be completely glass-mirrored like a traditional skyscraper. Mr. Ambani purchased the land in 2002 and construction has started on what proposes to be the most ambitious dwelling in recent memory. According to the plans, the structure will have only 27 storeys meaning much higher ceilings than is the standard. The 27 storeys will be broken down as follows: Six floors for parking, one floor will be an automotive garage, one floor for entertainment, four floors for the open-air balcony gardens, two floors for the health club, two floors are designated as the emergency rendez-vous floors, two floors for the Ambani family guests, four floors will be for Mr. Ambani’s immediate family, three floors will be building maintenance, one floor will be for mechanical works, and just before the rooftop heliport will be the heliport’s control room floor. The plans remind me of a great website called Mr. Wong’s Soup Parments - an online collaborative World’s tallest Internet building site that was popular in 2002. If you go over there and scroll down the different floors, you’ll even come across the Bollywood Indian Cinema floor that shows billboards for different movies including the classic Amitabh Bachchan hit: Sholay.

$5,000 Perfume

We thought $590 mascara was outrageous, so imagine our surprise when we discovered a $5,000 bottle of perfume. That’s a high price to smell nice!

Yu, which means rain in Chinese, is the luxury scent by Mane, and it was given the sniff test by New York Times perfume critic, Chandler Burr.

“It’s actually very interesting, aesthetically gorgeous,” he said. “You can smell the money in it. It’s almost a fresh quality, like using a very good toothpaste.”

But is it worth such big bucks? He doesn’t think so. “$5,000 is marketing, just increases the marketing campaign.”

We’ve seen a bounty of luxury products hit the market at steep prices, but an even higher demand for them. There are women willing to give out $260,150 for a hand bag, and even die hard music lovers willing to fork over $20,000 for an iPod shuffle.

But OK, you’re thinking, those items could be investments, or items to pass down to future generations. Perfume doesn’t last long, it’s a short lived pleasure. If that’s what you’re thinking, you obviously haven’t heard of the world’s most expensive cocktails, or the $14,500 dessert!

$589 Mascara

The world’s most expensive mascara? There are women who would pay $589 for a Swarovski-coated tube of mascara? You better believe it! Within the first week of launching The Socialite Collection, Taysha Smith Valez had already sold 1,700 tubes of the opulent lash coating. That’s over a million smackers!

What gave the 25-year old entrepreneur the confidence that there are women out there who wouldn’t mind shelling out that kind of dough to enhance their peepers? She’s one of them.

Born and raised in a wealthy family, Smith Valez understood that moneyed women know what they want – and will pay whatever it takes to get it delivered right. Not only does she provide the high-end products, but also offers a concierge service for a year after purchasing from her beauty line.

At 24 she was the CEO of H. Couture Beauty and made the decision to empower others to turn their dreams into reality with her book, “Young Black Millionairess.”

You can purchase the H. Couture line at Bianca’s Luxury Department Store, the Hautest Department Store on Earth.” (www.shopbiancas.com)

$62,000 Diamond-Studded Lipstick

This $62,000 lipstick from Guerlain comes with an 18-karat gold tube encrusted with 2.2 carats of diamonds, as well as some rubies and emeralds. The buyer will also get a personal appointment with cosmetics consultant, Olivier Echaudemaison, to develop a custom-made shade of lipstick. And you thought $600 mascara was outrageous?

$25 Million Watch

Feast your eyes upon the world’s most expensive watch.

This Swiss-made (natch) Chopard watch features three heart-shaped diamonds of 38 carats, surrounded by white and yellow flowery looking diamonds weighing 163 carats.

Chopard made this watch just to show the world they could. Of course, at $25 million, they might negotiate a little bit.

$18,000 Belt

While some may argue this accessory puts money to waste, all I can assure is it will put it to waist. This $18,000 belt will make standing out from the crowd a cinch.

The opulent men’s accessory is actually the world’s most expensive belt. It was created by men’s accessory designer Kale Miles whose belts range from $240 to this $18,000 piece.

It’s not coated in diamonds or precious jewels, so what gives it its value? It’s all in the buckle. The clasp is made out of nearly 8 ounces of platinum, and considering today platinum is worth $1,570.59 and ounce, that makes an 8 oz buckle alone worth $12,564.76 US. The belt has a strap made out of some of the finest leather in the world.

“Kale Miles uses full grain leather from the oldest bridal tannery in the world on the platinum line; at an average leather weight of nine ounces it’s tanned for over one year, which results in a longer lasting leather that gets more beautiful with age,” a press release detailed.

Of course, the belts are custom made to ensure each piece is unique and fits as an $18,000 belt should. Customers send in their measurements and Kale Miles adds an additional two inches to the regular size; making it smaller is never a problem, and you wouldn’t want to have to shaft a piece of luxury like this to the closet just because you indulged a little too much over the holidays.

$445,00 Shirts

Although this crisp, white Eton shirt looks like it’s in nestled in a coffin, the black case is actually more of a safe… or should be, considering it’s “The World’s Most Expensive Shirt,” costing about US $44,740.

The Swedish brand created this shirt the £23,000 Egyptian cotton shirt to celebrate their 80th birthday. I’m guessing the present is actually the cheque they’ll get after selling it.

So what type of qualities, other than being made of Egyptian cotton, does “The World’s Most Expensive Shirt” need? Well, other than diamond cufflinks and colored diamond studs, it would seem nothing else but a sophisticated European brand name.

World's Most Expensive Abaya Costs $350,000

The Abaya, a traditional Islamic outfit for females, gets the “world’s most expesnive” treatment on the hands of British designer Bruce Oldfield, a favorite of the late Princess Diana.

“This is the world’s first red carpet abaya,” said the designer of the abaya which is, “only for princesses, my dear.”

$260,150 Chanel "Diamond Forever" Tote

Forbes magazine called it “the costliest handbag on the market.” It may also be the most exclusive as well. Debuting in time for Christmas, the December launch of Chanel’s new Diamond Forever tote will introduce the world’s most pricy bag to date—and the company only made 13 of them.

The diamond and (matte) alligator bags have the iconic Chanel logo clasps which are bejweled with 334 diamonds—3.56 carats, if you must know—plunked into a solid 18-carat white gold bedding.

People want exclusivty, and they’re willing to pay a mean dollar to get it.

“A handbag (such as) the Chanel Diamond Forever bag is more of a collector’s item than something you use on a daily basis,” said Meaghan Mahoney, editor of Purseblog.com. “Like an exquisite car or a rare painting, it’s the limited availability and high demand that make this handbag more valuable

$2 Million Dollar Sandals - Stuart Weitzman’s Tanzanite Shoes

These sandals from Stuart Weitzman are priced at $2 million dollars. The super expensive silver-leathered footwear are decorated with 185 carats of tanzanite which is a rare gemstone found only in Africa and 28 carats of diamonds.

When I think of ultra chic, dressy sandals my mind conjures up thoughts of stylish, strappy footwear that do not elevate too much off the ground.

This Stuart Weitzman creation is not exactly what I would have in mind and at $2 million the bejeweled shoes are sure to put a bit of a dent in my shoes budget.
